The Texas Premier Soccer League (TPSL) awarded its latest franchise to Zuzeca Affiliated Soccer Clubs. The franchise will initially operate as SMFC, Inc. under the Zuzeca A.S.C. umbrella, and hopes to choose a name in the coming months based on fan input. The team plans to base its operations in the Kyle/Buda area, and will represent San Marcos and the South Austin region.  SMFC is slated to kick off in August, 2016.

“The TPSL is proud and excited to welcome our newest franchise to the league,” TPSL owner Brendan Keyes said. “We have great confidence in David Walding, who has a proven track record in soccer in the Central Texas area. We have great expectations from the San Marcos community in welcoming and expanding our league.”

The TPSL is a men’s outdoor soccer league featuring 10 club sides from across the state. The league season runs from September to March. All clubs registered to play with TPSL have an opportunity to qualify for the following season’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup due to the sanctioning by US Club Soccer, of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

“Today is an exciting day for our organization. Our ownership is proud to bring a Texas Premier Soccer League franchise to Hays County. There is no other sports franchise that represents the dynamic San Marcos and South Austin region,” Zuzeca’s David Walding said. “We are also excited about working toward a home soccer facility in Hays County, and forming lasting partnerships with the local business community.”
