A new semi pro soccer team representing the Alamo city called Genova FC San Antonio, will play their home games for the 2017-18 inaugural season at Wheatley Heights Sports Complex, the club announced today.
“We are very excited to have found a home for our club”, said John Rexroat, Co-owner and GM for Genova FC San Antonio. “The complex is simply amazing and we can’t wait for the season to start and rock our first home opener”.
The $10 million stadium can hold five thousand spectators and it was funded by Bexar County and the City of San Antonio. The stadium has hosted hundreds of club and high school soccer matches, football games, and track meets since 2012.
GFCSA will hold a tryout on April 30 at Wheatley Heights in preparing for their inaugural season in the Texas Premier Soccer League (TPSL). The club plans to host their first tournament in August, the Genova Cup.

Two trophies have been awarded already this season in the Texas Premier Soccer League. Newcomers Central Texas Lobos FC captured the Texas Cup in late January and unbeaten Twin Cities FC (5-3-0) recently secured the TPSL Shield for the first time.
Now four teams will begin the playoff for one final trophy – the TPSL Cup. In the semifinals teams will play a two-leg total goals series with winners advancing to the final.

Genova International School of Soccer (GISS), and Genova International Sports Management, are proud to announce the launch of Genova FC San Antonio (GFCSA) and their acceptance into the Texas Premier Soccer League (TPSL). The TPSL season runs from September through March. GFCSA will play 12-14 games, with home games played in San Antonio and away games throughout the state of Texas.
The main focus of GFCSA is to recruit the best of the best local talent and develop each player with only one goal in mind, the opportunity to develop home grown players and provide them a pathway to play professionally in Europe.
GFCSA will start its inaugural season playing TPSL in the Fall of 2017, and will feature only the top elite players from the San Antonio area. The club will also compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The U.S. Open Cup is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation and consists of professional teams playing in MLS, NASL, USL, TPSL, and amateur clubs.
GFCSA has scheduled two tryouts in San Antonio and two more will be announced at a later date. First tryout is March 25 at La Cantera Soccer fields and the second tryout is on March 26 at Soccer Zone Live Oak. The club website is currently under construction and will be up and running in June 2017.
Genova FC San Antonio is owned by two proprietors. First owner is ex Serie A and MLS professional footballer Morris Pagniello. He is the owner and Director of Genova International School of Soccer (GISS) and Genova International Sports Management (GISM). Pagniello owns five GISS residential academies worldwide. The academies are located in Spain, Italy, Australia, Canada, and China.
Second owner of Genova FC San Antonio is John Rexroat. He is the former owner and Director of Coaching of Valley Boys Soccer Club in Los Angeles, California from 2000 to 2009. He currently owns and is Director of Samba FC in San Antonio, Texas. His coaching career spans over 30 years coaching at the club, high school, college and semi pro levels. Rexroat is an ex pro footballer. He was a goalkeeper and played seven years in second division for team Cruz Azul. Rexroat will serve as General Manager for Genova FC San Antonio.

Genova FC San Antonio have announced their first open tryout for their semi-professional team for the 2017-2018 TPSL season.
“We are excited to see new players and have organized this event to see the best talented youth soccer players San Antonio has to offer”, said co-owner and GM, John Rexroat. “We want to find the best young talented players who can immediately roster our team and compete at the semi pro level. This is our first-ever open tryout and we plan to have three more tryouts scheduled throughout the city of San Antonio. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to be able to play for Genova FC San Antonio.”
Once Genova FC SA completes all their open tryouts the best players will be asked to return and participate (free of charge) in the elite combine scheduled in the month of May. After the elite combine 22 players will sign and play for Genova FC SA. The location and time for the elite combine to be announced at a later date.

Full details for Genova FC SA Open Tryouts:
Participants must be male and between 15 – 20 years old. The tryout will consist of each participant playing in two 30-minute, 11 v 11 soccer matches to impress the Genova FC SA scouting staff.
The registration fee the open tryout event is $40. In addition to the $40 registration fee, participants are responsible for all airfare, incurred travel costs, food and transportation to the tryout. Also note that Genova FC SA will not help with Visa’s or letters of invitation.
Players must come prepared for the tryouts with their own soccer shoes, socks, shorts, gloves, shinguards or any other equipment related to their position. Also, each player must bring a white and black jersey, black shorts and black socks at the tryouts. Upon check each in. Upon checking in all players must fill out a registration form and a number will be given to them to wear during the games. Teams will be constructed randomly according to players preferred positions. No refunds will be issued for any reason once a player has been registered.
